Vercival ran across town but was too late. The bank was closed. He hid the gemstone in his inner pocket but he knew it couldn't stay there forever. Was it any safer if he left it locked away in a box somewhere? It was much too valuable to risk someone discovering.
It was nightfall now and he had a short walk to the place where he lived. It was a small encampment in the center of a clearing at a nearby forest. It was just a cot really, inside of a makeshift tent where a handful of other cots also were, but it was more than enough for him as a simple laborer. His nearly one hundred years of experience had taught him to live simply and enjoy the little things. Being able to glimpse those naked elven women every day, even for just a few minutes, was definitely worth the chores he was tasked with. And he got to spend time in a beautiful castle everyday!
As he passed by a few people also returning to their homes from various places, he came to the edge of town and followed a small path to the encampment. A few torches were still lit to mark its exact location. Vercival saw that most of the tents were already closed up, meaning they were full. Cots were basically first come, first serve, but he saw one of the tents still open as a small person was entering it. He hurried to take his place in that one.
